The fourth-generation GMC Suburban was launched in early 1955 as part of GMC's new Blue Chip truck generation, mirroring Chevrolet's Task Force family. It embraced modern styling cues including a wraparound panoramic windshield, hooded headlights, and sleek horizontal body lines while offering spacious three-row seating. Under the hood, alongside durable inline-six powerplants, GMC introduced robust V8 engine options sourced from Pontiac displacing 288, 316, 347, and later 336 cubic inches, substantially elevating highway performance and towing capability. Transmissions spanned three-speed and four-speed manual units along with the four-speed Hydra-Matic automatic.
