The debut generation of the compact Geely Emgrand established a solid foundation for the brand's international success through rich equipment and high safety standards.
The first generation of the compact Geely Emgrand debuted in 2009 as the Emgrand EC7, offering both a four door sedan code named FE-1 and a five door hatchback code named FE-2. Built on a front wheel drive platform featuring Front MacPherson struts and a rear torsion beam layout, the model was powered by naturally aspirated 1.5 liter and 1.8 liter four cylinder petrol engines generating between 98 and 139 horsepower. Transmission choices included a five speed manual transmission and a continuously variable transmission CVT. In 2014, after Geely consolidated its sub brands, the car was officially rebranded as the Geely Emgrand. The interior offered rich equipment for its segment including automatic climate control, a digital media display, and full power accessories. It achieved four star Euro NCAP and five star C NCAP safety ratings, facilitating strong sales across China, Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and Latin America.
