Geely and Renault Reveal 1,113 HP Hybrid System for Off-Roaders
Horse Powertrain, created jointly by automakers Geely and Renault, has introduced the new 3DHT200 hybrid powertrain, specifically designed for heavy-duty SUVs operating under high-load conditions.
Two electric motors are integrated into the new system's architecture. The first unit develops 148 hp and primarily serves as a starter-generator, starting the internal combustion engine and generating electricity. The second electric motor, with an output of 308 hp, is directly responsible for driving the wheels and can spin up to speeds exceeding 20,000 rpm. Thanks to structural optimization, engineers managed to increase torque density by 15% and power density by 20% without a noticeable increase in the unit's dimensions.
The system operates in three modes: fully electric, series, and parallel. In urban environments and at low speeds, priority is given to the series setup, where the gasoline combustion engine generates electricity. As speed builds, the parallel mode is engaged with direct mechanical power transmission through a three-speed transmission. The developers note that even large SUVs equipped with this hybrid setup will be able to achieve an average fuel consumption of around 5 liters per 100 km.
A key focus of the engineering was tackling demanding off-road terrain under high loads at low speeds. Maximum wheel torque reaches 4920 Nm, enabling the vehicle to tackle inclines of up to 45 degrees. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is expected to take around 3 seconds. The debut model to feature the new system will be the Galaxy Cruiser 700 SUV: paired with an additional electric motor on the rear axle, its total combined output will reach 1113 hp.
