Cadillac Series 62 III gallery (1948–1953)

The third-generation Cadillac Series 62 was manufactured from 1948 through 1953 on GM's C-body platform. The 1948 model pioneered rear tailfins inspired by the P-38 Lightning fighter. In 1949, Cadillac introduced the hardtop Coupe de Ville. The lineup offered sedans, coupes, and convertibles. A 1950 restyle expanded cabin width and overall body rigidity. The groundbreaking Coupe de Ville hardtop set a new automotive styling benchmark by introducing a pillarless roofline canopy. The model experienced immense commercial success among wealthy buyers nationwide.

In 1949, Cadillac introduced its high-compression 331 cubic-inch (5.4-liter) OHV V8 producing 160 to 210 horsepower, paired with a 4-speed Hydra-Matic automatic. Features included available power steering (1952) and factory air conditioning (1953).
