Volkswagen Passat NMS gallery (2011–2022)
The North American Passat NMS was developed specifically for the US and Asian markets, offering an extended wheelbase and maximum rear space.
The Volkswagen Passat NMS (New Midsize Sedan) debuted in 2011 as a distinct model targeted at North America, China, and South Korea. Differing from the European B7, it featured a longer body with a wheelbase stretched by 91 mm and unique exterior stampings. The vehicle prioritized maximum rear knee room and plush suspension comfort at an accessible price point, built strictly as a four-door sedan.
US powertrain specs included a 2.5-liter five-cylinder (170 hp), a 3.6-liter VR6 (280 hp), 1.8/2.0 TSI turbo fours, and a 2.0 TDI turbodiesel. In 2019, a major restyle (NMS II) introduced bolder coupe-like styling cues and updated electronics, continuing assembly in Chattanooga until production officially ceased in 2022.
