The Volkswagen Passat B7 (Typ 3C/36) launched in late 2010 at the Paris Motor Show under Walter de Silva's design direction. Representing an extensive redesign of the B6 architecture, it featured new outer body panels, straight horizontal character lines, and LED optics. Cabin insulation was augmented with acoustic glass and extra sound proofing. Body variants contained sedan, Variant estate, and the rugged Alltrack estate.

Engine choices consisted of 1.4, 1.8, and 2.0 TSI turbo units, a 3.6 FSI VR6 engine with 250 hp, and 1.6/2.0 TDI Common Rail turbodiesels alongside a CNG EcoFuel model. Advanced driver aids debuted, including fatigue detection, Lane Assist, Dynamic Light Assist, and City Emergency Braking.
