Volkswagen Passat IV (B4) gallery (1993–1997)

The fourth Passat underwent extensive body redesign, adding back a front grille, standard dual airbags, and direct-injection TDI engines.

The Volkswagen Passat B4 (Typ 3A) launched in late 1993. While retaining the structural layout of the B3, it received extensive exterior revisions, including all-new body panels and the return of a conventional front grille. Body stiffness was improved dramatically to accommodate strict new crash safety regulations. The lineup maintained sedan and Variant estate body styles.

Interior updates introduced dual front airbags as standard equipment alongside ABS. The engine lineup featured 1.6 to 2.0-liter petrol engines, high-output 2.8/2.9-liter VR6 engines up to 190 hp, and the introduced 1.9 TDI direct-injection turbodiesel. Approximately 690,000 units of the B4 generation were manufactured before production transitioned in 1996.
