The Volkswagen Passat B6 (Typ 3C) debuted at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show. Built on the PQ46 platform with a transverse engine layout, it maximized interior cabin room and cargo space. Visually, the B6 featured sharp teardrop headlights, a prominent chrome grille shield, and round LED tail lamps. Offered body forms were sedan and Variant estate.

Innovations featured push-button electronic ignition, an electric parking brake, adaptive cruise control, and DSG automatic transmissions. Gasoline offerings spanned 1.4 to 3.2-liter FSI/TSI engines, highlighted by the high-performance Passat R36 driven by a 300 hp 3.6 VR6 engine, while diesels featured 1.9 and 2.0 TDI options with Haldex-based 4Motion AWD.
