The second-generation Tesla Roadster is engineered on a proprietary bespoke electric platform, departing entirely from the adapted Lotus chassis that underpinned the original 2008–2012 vehicle. The body is a 2+2 sports car featuring a removable glass roof panel that stows in the trunk. In contrast to the single-motor, rear-wheel-drive architecture of the first generation, the second generation features an advanced all-wheel-drive multi-motor electric powertrain designed to deliver unprecedented acceleration and top speeds. The vehicle also integrates specialized aerospace hardware developed alongside SpaceX, including cold gas thruster systems.
