Production-Bound 2028 Tesla Roadster Trades Sleek 2017 Concept Curves For Angular Two-Seat Design
Following the October 2026 unveiling of the production-bound 2028 Tesla Roadster prototype, the electric supercar's exterior and interior design have undergone a complete overhaul compared to the original second-generation concept shown in November 2017. While nine years of development naturally bring engineering and styling revisions, Tesla has effectively started from scratch, replacing the 2017 concept's flowing curves, rounded surfaces, and classic low-slung supercar proportions with a sharp, angular aesthetic closely aligned with the Cybertruck.
The new Roadster features an aggressive, wedge-shaped silhouette with sharp edges, full-width front and rear light bars, and complex aerodynamic bodywork that gives it a much more technical appearance. According to Tesla, the updated styling draws direct aerospace inspiration from aircraft such as the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird and the F-35 fighter jet, reflecting the company's high performance targets and ongoing collaboration with SpaceX.
Beyond the exterior redesign, Tesla has also altered the car's fundamental layout and hardware. Whereas the 2017 concept was presented with a 2+2 seating configuration, the 2028 Roadster is strictly a two-seater. It also incorporates steer-by-wire controls, active aerodynamics, and a range of experimental technologies.
Production of the new Tesla Roadster is currently scheduled for 2028 after years of delays. As a result, reservation holders who placed deposits back in 2017 have waited nearly a decade for a vehicle that has evolved from a sleek, traditional sports car concept into a radically different, sharp-edged two-seat machine.
