About this generation

The second-generation Suzuki Escudo SUV (TD02W series) was manufactured in Japan from 1997 to 2005.

Unveiled for the Japanese market in November 1997, the second-generation Suzuki Escudo (TD02W/TD52W series) featured refined body contours, lower cabin noise levels, and an upgraded ladder chassis. Offered in 3-door and 5-door station wagon configurations, it retained shift-on-the-fly Drive Select 4WD with a dual-range transfer box.

Japanese domestic engines included 1.6-liter (107 hp), 2.0-liter (140 hp), and 2.5-liter DOHC V6 (160 hp) gasoline units, plus a Mazda 2.0-liter turbodiesel. In 2000, Suzuki introduced the stretched 7-seater Grand Escudo powered by a 2.7-liter V6 engine (177 hp). A 2002 update revised dashboard ergonomics and grille styling.
