The seventh generation Sambar utilizes Daihatsu's DNGA platform featuring a newly developed commercial CVT transmission.
Introduced in January 2022, the seventh-generation Subaru Sambar (S700/S710 series) is an OEM rebadge of the tenth-generation Daihatsu Hijet built on the DNGA (Daihatsu New Global Architecture) platform. Featuring boxy styling optimized for maximal cargo volume, it is powered by 660 cc KF 3-cylinder engines (46–64 hp). The engineering setup effectively combined the low center of gravity inherent to the horizontally-opposed engine layout with a rigid chassis frame, delivering precise handling and composure across dry pavement and slippery surfaces alike. Engine bay packaging ensured optimal front-to-rear axle weight distribution alongside efficient thermal cooling under sustained driving loads.
A key highlight is the introduction of a new commercial-grade CVT transmission replacing the legacy automatic, improving fuel efficiency. The Smart Assist safety suite comes standard. Production continues in Japan. Designers placed a strong emphasis on cabin ergonomics, occupant visibility, and long-distance driving comfort. Robust mechanical reliability across the drivetrain and suspension components helped establish this generation as a benchmark choice within its competitive market segment worldwide.
