Produced from 1982 to 1990, the third-generation Subaru Sambar (KR/KT platform) debuted a boxy exterior layout with maximized interior volume. The generation featured the premier of the passenger-oriented Sambar Try microvan. Propulsion relied on the 544 cc EK23 engine, joined in 1987 by a supercharged variant producing 46 hp. The engineering setup effectively combined the low center of gravity inherent to the horizontally-opposed engine layout with a rigid chassis frame, delivering precise handling and composure across dry pavement and slippery surfaces alike.
