The fourth-generation Honda Accord (CB1–CB9) premiered in late 1989, built on a newly engineered chassis with a lengthened wheelbase and high torsional rigidity. Body styles included a four-door sedan, two-door coupe, and five-door station wagon (Wagon), while the hatchback variant was discontinued. Exterior styling adopted smooth, executive lines with fixed halogen headlights replacing pop-up units. Advanced tech included an electronically controlled 4-Wheel Steering (4WS) system on select trims.

Powering the CB Accord were all-aluminum 16-valve F-series 1.8-liter, 2.0-liter, and 2.2-liter inline-four engines producing between 105 and 150 horsepower. Transmission options included a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic with electronically controlled shift logic. A 1991 facelift brought restyled bumpers, refreshed tail lamps, and standard driver-side airbags.
