The fifth generation introducing independent rear suspension, Air Ride adaptive chassis, and Duramax diesel.
The fifth-generation GMC Yukon was unveiled in January 2020 for the 2021 model year on the GM T1XX platform (internal code T1UG). The most monumental mechanical upgrade was the switch to an independent rear multi-link suspension, which drastically enhanced passenger room in the third row, cargo capacity, and ride quality. GMC introduced the off-road dedicated AT4 trim with standard skid plates and four-corner Air Ride Adaptive Suspension. The engine lineup features the 5.3-liter V8 (355 hp), the 6.2-liter V8 (420 hp), and a highly efficient 3.0-liter inline-6 Duramax turbodiesel (initially the LM2 with 277 hp, later upgraded to the LZ0 with 305 hp). All powertrains are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission operated via push-button Electronic Precision Shift. A significant mid-cycle refresh for the 2025 model year brought a redesigned front fascia, an enormous 16.8-inch vertical touchscreen, updated safety tech, and the range-topping Denali Ultimate trim.
