GMC Yukon I (GMT400) photos

The first generation of the GMC Yukon was introduced for the 1992 model year (production starting in 1991) on General Motors' GMT400 platform, originally replacing the long-running full-size GMC Jimmy as a two-door SUV. A five-door four-door version arrived in 1995, vastly increasing the vehicle's market appeal. Under the hood, the Yukon was primarily powered by a 5.7-liter V8 engine (initially the TBI L05, later upgraded to the multi-point Vortec 5700 L31 producing 255 hp) along with a 6.5-liter turbocharged Detroit Diesel V8. Power was managed through robust 4-speed automatic transmissions (4L60-E or 4L80-E), though rare early models were available with a 5-speed manual. Drivetrain options included rear-wheel drive and part-time four-wheel drive with shift-on-the-fly transfer cases. In 1998, GMC introduced the flagship luxury Yukon Denali trim. The model was predominantly sold across North America and the Middle East.
