The fifth-generation Australian Falcon spanned EA, EB, ED, EF, and EL series produced between 1988 and 1998. The design featured a sleek aerodynamic profile with flush glass and low drag coefficient. Available in sedan, wagon, and utility variants, it competed fiercely for market dominance against the Holden Commodore.

The 1991 EB series re-introduced the 5.0-liter Windsor V8 engine and established high-performance XR6 and XR8 models in partnership with Tickford Vehicle Engineering. Mid-life EF and EL updates added standard driver airbags, ABS brakes, dynamic handling packages, and factory LPG gas dual-fuel options.
