Buick Skylark VIII (N-body) photos

The eighth and final generation Buick Skylark debuted in 1992 on a heavily revised GM N-body architecture. It stood out immediately with daring, radical styling featuring a sharp pointed front beak and arched greenhouse, offered in two-door coupe and four-door sedan body styles. The engine lineup included the 2.3-liter Quad 4 (replaced in 1996 by the 2.4-liter LD9 Twin Cam), a 3.3-liter V6, and GM's venerable 3.1-liter 3100 V6 producing up to 160 horsepower. Transmissions evolved from 3-speed automatics and 5-speed manuals to modern electronically controlled 4-speed 4T60-E automatics. A major mid-cycle redesign in 1996 replaced the polarizing front beak with a conventional chrome grille, updated lighting, and introduced an all-new dashboard with dual airbags. Production ended in 1998 for the North American market, concluding a storied 45-year heritage.
