The third generation Buick Skylark was introduced in 1964, growing into an intermediate mid-size car built on General Motors' perimeter-frame A-body platform. Base models were equipped with a 225 cubic inch (3.7L) cast-iron V6, while V8 options included the 300 cubic inch (4.9L) and later the 340 cubic inch (5.6L) Wildcat engines. In 1965, the high-performance Gran Sport package was launched with a potent 401 cubic inch (6.6L) Nailhead V8 producing 325 horsepower. Transmissions included three-speed and four-speed manuals as well as the two-speed Super Turbine 300 automatic. Body styles encompassed two-door hardtops, convertibles, four-door sedans, and the unique Sport Wagon with skyroof glass panels. Major styling revisions in 1966 and 1967 brought semi-fastback rooflines and flowing Coke-bottle quarter contours to the North American market.
