The fourth generation Buick Skylark debuted for 1968 on the redesigned GM A-body architecture, featuring split wheelbases of 112 inches for two-door models and 116 inches for four-door variants. The styling was characterized by prominent sweeping side creases reminiscent of classic Buicks and aerodynamic fastback profiles. Under the hood, base engines included a 250 cubic inch (4.1L) inline-six, complemented by Buick's durable 350 cubic inch (5.7L) small-block V8 and massive 455 cubic inch (7.5L) big-block V8 on top-tier performance models. Drivetrains incorporated three- or four-speed manual transmissions and three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic 350 automatics. Annual facelifts updated grille textures, bumper designs, and lighting clusters through 1972. Sold primarily in North America, this generation marked the peak of classic rear-wheel-drive intermediate Buick muscle and luxury.
