About this generation

The third-generation Audi A8 (D4) introduced Matrix LED light technology, MMI touch navigation, and twin-turbocharged V8 power.

Revealed in late 2009 for the 2010 model year, the third-generation Audi A8 (D4) established technological standards. The D4 introduced full-LED lighting, later evolving into Matrix LED headlights in 2013. Its aluminum ASF frame incorporated high-strength hot-formed steel reinforcements for optimal structural rigidity and crash protection.

Cabin features included MMI touch, Google Earth navigation integration, and an available 1,400-watt Bang & Olufsen audio system with motorized acoustic lenses. Engines included 3.0 TFSI V6, 4.0 TFSI V8 biturbo, 6.3 W12, and 3.0 TDI / 4.2 TDI V8 diesels, alongside an A8 Hybrid model. The long-wheelbase A8 L variant catered to chauffeur-driven luxury. The model fully reflected the premium status of the automaker and its commitment to technological leadership in its class.
