About this generation

The second-generation Audi A8 (D3) introduced standard adaptive air suspension, MMI control interface, and powerful FSI/TDI V8 engines.

Debuting in 2002, the second-generation Audi A8 (chassis code D3) advanced Audi's flagship representation. Designed under Dirk van Braeckel, the D3 exhibited timeless elegance, introducing the Singleframe grille during its mid-cycle update in 2005. The second-generation aluminum Audi Space Frame (ASF) structure provided increased torsional rigidity and safety performance.

The D3 introduced the Multi Media Interface (MMI) system and featured adaptive air suspension as standard equipment across the range. Engine options spanned 3.2 FSI V6, 4.2 FSI V8, 6.0 W12 petrols, and high-torque 3.0 TDI and 4.2 TDI V8 diesels. The D3 generation set benchmarks for serene cabin isolation, ride comfort, and craftsmanship.
