The first-generation Volkswagen Vento sedan (1H) was produced from 1991 to 1998 as the three-box notchback version of the Golf III.
The first-generation Volkswagen Vento compact sedan with internal designation 1H debuted in late 1991 as the successor to the Jetta II in European markets (retaining the Jetta III badge in North America). Built upon Volkswagen's A3 (PQ31) platform, the Vento shared its mechanical core with the Golf Mk3 while introducing a distinct notchback profile, rectangular headlights, and a expansive 550-liter trunk space.
Engine offerings for the Vento 1H encompassed four-cylinder gasoline engines ranging from 1.6 to 2.0 liters, crowned by the 2.8-liter VR6 engine producing 174 hp. Diesel choices featured 1.9-liter naturally aspirated and turbocharged D/TD engines alongside early direct-injection 1.9 TDI units. Gearbox options included a five-speed manual and a four-speed automatic. The Vento was succeeded by the Bora in 1998.
