The second-generation Volkswagen Saveiro pickup (body code G2) launched in 1997 sharing the aerodynamic bodywork of the Gol G2. It expanded bed cargo volume and offered an Extended Cab configuration. Mid-cycle upgrades were code-named G3 (2000) and G4 (2005).

Engine offerings included 1.6, 1.8, and 2.0-liter AP inline-four engines alongside a 1.9 D/SDI diesel, driving the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox.
