Toyota Supra II (A60) photos

Introduced in late 1981, the second-generation Supra (A60) retained the Celica Supra nameplate in North America and Celica XX in Japan. The car's exterior was radically transformed, featuring a more angular, aerodynamic body with signature pop-up headlights that epitomized 1980s sports car design. A major leap forward was the chassis: the fully independent suspension was tuned with assistance from Lotus. Under the hood lay a new 2.8-liter DOHC inline-six engine (5M-GE), which saw its output increase from 145 hp to 161 hp over the course of production.

Buyers could choose between two main configurations: the P-Type (Performance), featuring wider wheels, fender flares, sports seats, and a limited-slip differential, and the L-Type (Luxury), which focused on comfort and offered a digital instrument cluster. The model was continually updated; in 1984, it received revised taillights, bumpers, and engine modifications for better torque. The A60 Supra earned significant critical acclaim and frequently appeared on Car and Driver's '10 Best' list. Production concluded in early 1986.
