Unveiled in September 2007, the 200 Series (J200) featured a heavy-duty redesigned frame and expanded body dimensions. Tech innovations included Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS) to alter stabilizer bar stiffness automatically, 4-Wheel AHC height control, Crawl Control terrain management, and Multi-Terrain Select ABS systems. Engineers paid meticulous attention to structural body rigidity, minimizing noise, vibration, and harshness levels while enhancing cabin material quality. The refined chassis architecture delivered excellent ride comfort and predictable handling characteristics across both urban streets and high-speed highways.

Powertrains featured V8 petrol engines: 4.7L 2UZ-FE, 4.6L 1UR-FE (309 hp), and 5.7L 3UR-FE (381 hp), complemented by the 4.5L 1VD-FTV twin-turbodiesel V8 (235–286 hp). Transmissions were 6- or 8-speed automatics. Facelifts in 2012 and 2015 added full-LED headlamps and advanced safety suites. Production concluded in 2021. High levels of active and passive safety were corroborated by outstanding crash test results and comprehensive driver assistance technologies. Thanks to exceptional mechanical endurance and robust powertrain engineering, this generation earned global acclaim across all major automotive markets. An extensive service network and affordable maintenance costs solidified the vehicle's position as a benchmark in its market segment for years.
