The fifth generation Toyota Hiace family (H200 series) debuted in August 2004. The design featured a clean, functional box silhouette with stacked vertical headlamp clusters and a high window line. The H200 range offered extensive body selections: standard (1,695 mm) and wide (1,880 mm) bodies, long and super-long wheelbases, and standard or high roofs, configured as cargo vans or Commuter minibuses seating up to 14 occupants. Ergonomics improved with a dash-mounted gear lever and durable cabin materials.
Powertrain technology centered on Toyota's common-rail D-4D turbodiesel family: 2.5-liter 2KD-FTV (102–120 hp), 3.0-liter 1KD-FTV (136–144 hp), and the 2.8-liter 1GD-FTV producing up to 177 horsepower. Gasoline options include 2.0-liter 1TR-FE and 2.7-liter 2TR-FE engines. Transmissions are five-speed manuals or four- and six-speed automatics, with RWD and full-time 4WD available. Continuous mid-cycle updates in 2007, 2010, 2013, 2017, and 2020 introduced LED lighting, touchscreen audio, and Toyota Safety Sense.
