The second generation Toyota Avanza compact MPV (F650 series) launched in November 2011. Retaining its rugged rear-wheel-drive body-on-frame layout, the vehicle debuted a completely restyled body with swept-back headlamps, a wider front grille, and smooth side profile creases. The lineup introduced the flagship Avanza Veloz variant, featuring a unique sporty front fascia, chrome accents, and an integrated rear roof spoiler. Interior updates enhanced cabin refinement with better insulation, a redesigned dashboard, and improved seat padding across all three rows.

A major mid-cycle refresh in 2015 (designated Grand New Avanza) introduced Toyota's new Dual VVT-i NR-series four-cylinder engines: a 1.3-liter 1NR-VE (96.5 hp) and a 1.5-liter 2NR-VE (104 hp). Gearboxes remained a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic. A second facelift in 2019 introduced split LED headlight clusters inspired by the Alphard, digital climate controls, and push-button start. The F650 remained in production through 2021.
