Toyota Avanza I (F600) photos

The first generation Toyota Avanza compact MPV (F600 series) debuted in Indonesia in December 2003. Co-developed by Toyota and Daihatsu (sold sibling-badged as the Daihatsu Xenia), the vehicle was engineered specifically to provide affordable seven-seat family transportation across developing markets in Southeast Asia. Constructed on a semi-unibody chassis with an integrated ladder frame, the rear-wheel-drive layout incorporated a heavy-duty live rear axle designed for rough road endurance. The 4,120 mm five-door body housed three rows of passenger seating.

Engine offerings comprised Daihatsu-derived four-cylinder gasoline engines: a 1.3-liter K3-DE (86 hp, upgraded in 2006 to a VVT-i K3-VE producing 92 hp) and a 1.5-liter 3SZ-VE generating 109 horsepower. Transmissions included a five-speed manual and a four-speed automatic. A major 2006 facelift modernized the front grille fascia, bumpers, and taillights, while introducing optional ABS brakes and dual rear air-conditioning vents. The F600 established the Avanza as one of Indonesia's best-selling vehicles.
