Produced from August 1994 to 1999, the fourth-generation Subaru Leone Van (Y10 platform) was an OEM rebadged commercial wagon derived from the Nissan AD (Y10) under a supply agreement with Nissan. Aimed strictly at Japanese fleet buyers, it was powered by Nissan 4-cylinder petrol engines: the 1.3-liter GA13DS (79 hp) and 1.5-liter GA15 (94–105 hp). The MacPherson strut front suspension setup paired with the refined rear suspension layout struck an optimal balance between highway composure and smooth absorption of road surface imperfections. The engineering setup effectively combined the low center of gravity inherent to the horizontally-opposed engine layout with a rigid chassis frame, delivering precise handling and composure across dry pavement and slippery surfaces alike. Engine bay packaging ensured optimal front-to-rear axle weight distribution alongside efficient thermal cooling under sustained driving loads.
Transmission choices included manual and automatic gearboxes paired with FWD or part-time 4WD. A minor 1997 update refreshed lighting trim before production ended in 1999.
