Subaru Legacy V (BM/BR) gallery (2009–2014)

Unveiled in 2009, the fifth-generation Subaru Legacy (BM sedan, BR wagon) grew considerably in overall dimensions, adding 80 mm to its wheelbase to maximize rear passenger legroom. It introduced Subaru's Lineartronic chain-driven Continuously Variable Transmission across naturally aspirated models. The engine lineup comprised 2.0L and 2.5L four-cylinder units, a 2.5L turbo boxer, the new 3.6-liter EZ36 flat-six (256 hp), and the 2.0-liter EE20 diesel. The engineering setup effectively combined the low center of gravity inherent to the horizontally-opposed engine layout with a rigid chassis frame, delivering precise handling and composure across dry pavement and slippery surfaces alike. Engine bay packaging ensured optimal front-to-rear axle weight distribution alongside efficient thermal cooling under sustained driving loads.

A mid-cycle update in 2012 refreshed the grille, front bumper, and suspension geometry to enhance body control. This generation also saw the early rollout of Subaru's EyeSight driver-assistance technology in major international markets prior to production ending in 2014. Designers placed a strong emphasis on cabin ergonomics, occupant visibility, and long-distance driving comfort. Robust mechanical reliability across the drivetrain and suspension components helped establish this generation as a benchmark choice within its competitive market segment worldwide.
