The Rolls-Royce Silver Spur II made its debut at the 1989 Frankfurt Motor Show, marking a significant engineering upgrade for the SZ model range. The most notable technological advancement was the introduction of the Automatic Ride Control (ARC) suspension system, which automatically adjusted the damper settings in fractions of a second to minimize body roll while preserving the marque's signature magic carpet ride. The interior was heavily revised, showcasing updated dashboard architecture, improved ergonomic controls, and dual-level air conditioning. Under the hood, the 6.75-litre Rolls-Royce V8 engine was upgraded with advanced Bosch Motronic engine management. While initial units continued with the 3-speed GM TH400 automatic gearbox, late 1991 models adopted the modern electronically controlled 4-speed GM 4L80E automatic transmission.
