The first-generation Rolls-Royce Silver Spur was introduced in 1980 alongside its standard-wheelbase sibling, the Silver Spirit, utilizing the newly developed SZ platform. The Silver Spur featured a 4-inch (102 mm) longer wheelbase compared to the Silver Spirit, providing substantial additional legroom for rear-seat passengers alongside a standard Everflex vinyl roof covering. Power was provided by the iconic 6.75-litre Rolls-Royce aluminum V8 engine (L410), initially fitted with twin Solex carburetors before being upgraded to Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection in 1986 for improved efficiency and emissions compliance. The engine was paired with a smooth 3-speed General Motors Turbo Hydramatic 400 automatic transmission. Suspension utilized an advanced high-pressure hydraulic self-leveling system at the rear axle under license from Citroën, ensuring a serenely cushioned ride. The Silver Spur was marketed globally with high success in the United Kingdom, mainland Europe, the Middle East, Japan, and North America.
