About this generation

Launched in 2008, the sixth-generation Z34—known worldwide as the Nissan 370Z—featured a shorter wheelbase, extensive aluminum bodywork, and a larger 3.7-liter V6 engine.

Unveiled in late 2008, the sixth-generation Z-car (chassis code Z34) entered global markets as the Nissan 370Z while continuing as the Fairlady Z in Japan. Compared to the outgoing Z33, the Z34 was comprehensively re-engineered on an evolved version of the rear-wheel-drive FM platform. Engineers reduced the wheelbase by 100 mm to sharpen handling agility, widened the front and rear tracks, and increased structural rigidity while keeping weight in check through the use of aluminum for the hood, doors, and rear hatch. As with its predecessor, the model was offered in two two-seat body styles: a fastback coupe and a convertible Roadster with a power-folding soft top that arrived in 2009 (and remained available in key markets until the late 2010s). Under the hood, displacement grew with the introduction of the 3.7-liter naturally aspirated VQ37VHR V6 engine featuring Variable Valve Event and Lift (VVEL) technology. Transmission choices upgraded significantly over the Z33, pairing the engine with either a 6-speed manual transmission equipped with the world's first production synchronized downshift rev-matching system (SynchroRev Match) or a new 7-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. For the 2013 model year, the Z34 received a facelift incorporating a redesigned front fascia with vertical LED daytime running lights, revised suspension tuning, and fresh wheel designs. The high-performance NISMO variant offered increased horsepower, stiffened chassis bracing, and bespoke aerodynamics, which were further restyled for the 2015 model year. Marketed across North America, Japan, Europe, and Australia, the Z34 enjoyed a remarkably long production run through 2020.
