The second-generation Nissan Qashqai (J11) transitioned to the modular CMF-CD platform, offering sharper styling, advanced safety technology, and improved refinement over its predecessor.
Unveiled in late 2013, the second-generation Nissan Qashqai (codenamed J11) marked a significant technological leap as the first model built on the Renault-Nissan Alliance's modular CMF-CD architecture. Compared to the outgoing J10, the J11 grew longer and wider while sitting slightly lower, adopting a much bolder exterior design featuring Nissan's signature V-Motion grille and boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights. Nissan discontinued the seven-seat Qashqai+2 variant for this generation, consolidating three-row family duties into the mechanically related third-generation X-Trail (T32) and offering the J11 strictly as a five-door, five-seat crossover. In Europe, the powertrain strategy shifted heavily toward turbocharged downsizing, introducing 1.2-liter and 1.6-liter DIG-T petrol engines—later replaced by a 1.3-liter DIG-T unit co-developed with Daimler—alongside highly efficient 1.5-liter, 1.6-liter, and later 1.7-liter dCi diesels. However, for markets such as Russia, North America, and Australia, the model retained a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter direct-injection petrol engine (MR20DD). Transmission choices comprised a 6-speed manual, a revised Xtronic CVT engineered to mimic conventional stepped gear shifts, and a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) introduced on later European petrol variants, paired with either front-wheel or intelligent all-wheel drive. A major facelift debuted in 2017, bringing a redesigned front fascia, upgraded cabin materials, a flat-bottomed steering wheel, retuned suspension and steering for better ride comfort, enhanced sound insulation, and the availability of Nissan's ProPILOT semi-autonomous driving assistance. Beyond its core European and CIS markets, the J11 was also sold in North America starting in 2017 as the Nissan Rogue Sport.
