The fourth-generation Nissan Frontier represents a comprehensive technical evolution for the Japanese mid-size truck. Engineered on a newly developed architecture, the pickup is designed specifically to accommodate electrified powertrains, departing from traditional purely internal-combustion foundations. The vehicle maintains its pickup layout while prioritizing functional utility, advanced cabin technology, and structural rigidity suited for both urban duty and severe hauling conditions.

A defining engineering highlight of the new generation is a patented folding midgate mechanism connecting the interior cabin directly with the cargo box. When the rear passenger seatbacks fold completely flat, a single-piece partition drops down to create an unbroken loading deck from the tailgate forward. Compared to its predecessor (D41), the fourth generation swaps conventional naturally aspirated V6 engines for electrified setups, including hybrid and fully electric options.
