The fourth-generation Mitsubishi Eclipse (4G model code, DK2A and DK4A chassis) debuted at the 2005 North American International Auto Show. Built on the mid-size PS platform shared with the North American Galant and Endeavor, it offered muscular fender flares and a sweeping roofline in two-door coupe and Spyder convertible layouts. Engineering of the Eclipse IV (4G) (factory code 4G) emphasized high structural rigidity, aerodynamic efficiency, and optimized interior spatial packaging. Built with reinforced body structures utilizing high-tensile steel alloys, the platform delivered reduced curb weight alongside improved occupant crash protection. The vehicle was distributed globally in multiple configuration packages designed to satisfy diverse market demands and regional regulatory specifications.

Engines comprised a 2.4-liter 4G69 MIVEC four-cylinder (162 hp) and a 3.8-liter 6G75 MIVEC V6 producing up to 265 horsepower on GT models. Transmissions included 5-speed and 6-speed manuals alongside 4-speed and 5-speed Sportronic automatics. A 2009 facelift adopted a dual-translucent rear spoiler and Jet Fighter front fascia accents.
