The first generation of the Isuzu Elf debuted in August 1959, initially featuring gasoline engines and later pioneering the small diesel truck segment in Japan from 1960. Built on a robust ladder-frame platform with multiple wheelbase configurations, it offered various body styles including flatbeds, microbuses, and vans. The powertrain lineup consisted of dependable petrol and diesel engines mated to manual transmissions. This generation established a solid foundation for the brand's commercial success across domestic and Asian markets, recognized for its durability and utilitarian engineering.
