The VZ generation Holden Ute was manufactured in Australia from 2004 to 2007, representing the final iteration built on the venerable rear-wheel-drive GM V-body platform architecture. Retaining the traditional two-door coupe utility layout with an integrated cargo tub, the VZ brought substantial mechanical advancements compared to the previous VY series. The most significant update was the introduction of the modern 3.6-litre Alloytec DOHC V6 engine family, replacing the long-running cast-iron pushrod Ecotec units. For performance enthusiasts, the 5.7-litre Gen III LS1 V8 continued initially before being superseded in early 2006 by the larger and more muscular 6.0-litre L76 Gen IV V8 engine. Drivetrain updates also included new five-speed automatic and six-speed Aisin manual transmissions alongside the proven four-speed automatics and heavy-duty Tremec manuals for V8 variants. Visual distinctions from the VY included a sculpted bonnet with sharper creases, revised front fascias, updated lighting clusters, and aggressive sports body kits. Equipped with upgraded braking systems and advanced electronic stability controls on selected trims, the VZ Ute was sold primarily in Australia and New Zealand, serving as a highly capable and versatile performance utility.
