Holden Ute III (VR) photos

The VR series Holden Ute was produced between 1993 and 1995, marking a significant evolution in the design and technological sophistication of the Australian utility vehicle. Utilizing the long-wheelbase variant of General Motors' rear-wheel-drive V-body architecture, the VR Ute retained its traditional two-door unibody structure and heavy-duty live rear axle with leaf springs for load-carrying reliability. Under the bonnet, the utility offered an improved 3.8-litre Buick 3800 naturally aspirated V6 engine alongside the iconic 5.0-litre Holden multi-point fuel-injected V8 motor, both engineered for strong low-end torque. Buyers could choose between a five-speed Borg-Warner manual gearbox and the newly introduced GM 4L60-E four-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. Key improvements over the VP series included a thoroughly revised aerodynamic body with a distinctive twin-nostril grille, redesigned headlamps, a modernised dashboard, revised front suspension geometry, and the introduction of a driver airbag and optional anti-lock brakes (ABS). The Series II update arrived in 1994, adding minor trim enhancements. The VR Ute was sold on the Australian and New Zealand domestic markets.
