The VF series Holden Ute stood as the technological pinnacle and final locally manufactured generation of Australia's iconic rear-wheel-drive utility vehicle.
The VF generation Holden Ute was produced in Elizabeth, South Australia, from 2013 until 2017, marking the grand finale of the homegrown Australian rear-wheel-drive car-based utility. Built on the sophisticated GM Zeta platform architecture, it retained the distinct two-door coupe utility profile while introducing significant engineering refinements over the preceding VE generation. Weight-saving measures included an aluminium bonnet and tailgate, paired with a completely restyled front fascia featuring sleeker headlights, LED daytime running lights, and enhanced aerodynamic efficiency. The cabin underwent a massive transformation, boasting premium soft-touch materials, an 8-inch MyLink touchscreen infotainment system, advanced driver assistance technologies, and an optional head-up display. Under the hood, buyers could choose between the 3.6-litre SIDI direct-injection V6 engine and muscular V8 powertrains, initially featuring the 6.0-litre L77 V8 and later upgraded to the thunderous 6.2-litre LS3 V8 for the VF Series II update launched in late 2015. Transmissions included six-speed manual and six-speed automatic gearboxes. Marketed primarily across Australia and New Zealand, the VF Ute ceased production in October 2017 when Holden permanently ended local vehicle manufacturing operations.
