The VP series Holden Ute was the second generation of the modern Commodore-based utility vehicle, featuring updated mechanicals and revised styling.

The Holden VP series Ute was produced from 1991 to 1993, representing the second iteration of the modern passenger-car-based two-door coupe utility. Built on the rear-wheel-drive GM V-body architecture shared with the VN/VP Commodore station wagon, the VP Ute retained an extended wheelbase, a unibody construction, and a rugged live rear axle with leaf springs specifically engineered for commercial cargo hauling. The powertrain lineup consisted of an upgraded 3.8-litre Buick-sourced naturally aspirated V6 engine with refined balance and lower noise levels, alongside the traditional 5.0-litre Australian-built Holden V8 engine, which was also tuned for special performance editions by HSV. Power was transmitted to the rear wheels via either a five-speed Borg-Warner T5 manual transmission or a GM four-speed Hydra-Matic 4L60 automatic gearbox. Compared to the preceding VG Ute, the VP generation introduced subtle exterior styling revisions, an updated front MacPherson suspension, improved braking capabilities, and a more ergonomic interior layout. In 1992, the Series II update brought minor mechanical refinements and revised equipment packages. The model was manufactured locally and sold exclusively in Australia and New Zealand.
