The fifth-generation Cadillac Seville (1998–2004) served as a global flagship model, introducing MagneRide magnetic fluid dampers and StabiliTrak stability.
The fifth and final generation of the Cadillac Seville was produced from 1998 through 2004 on GM's stiff front-wheel-drive G-body architecture. Engineered for global export markets, it was the first Cadillac engineered for factory left- and right-hand-drive configurations. The exterior projected a refined, evolutionary athletic design with enhanced structural rigidity. The lineup comprised the SLS and high-performance STS, which in 2002 premiered MagneRide magnetic-fluid active damping technology.
Power came from the 4.6-liter 32-valve DOHC Northstar V8, calibrated to produce 275 horsepower in the SLS and 300 horsepower in the STS. Drive reached the front wheels via a 4-speed 4T80-E automatic transaxle. Advanced features encompassed StabiliTrak stability control, adaptive contour seats, ultrasonic park assist, and a Bose 4.0 audio system. In 2005, it was succeeded by the RWD Cadillac STS.
