The third-generation Cadillac Seville was manufactured from 1986 to 1991 on a dramatically downsized front-wheel-drive K-body unibody architecture. Initial conservative styling prompted a significant 1988 facelift that restored a traditional upright grille and longer front sheet metal. In 1988, Cadillac introduced the performance-focused Seville Touring Sedan (STS), featuring a sports-tuned suspension, monochromatic exterior trim, supportive leather sport seats, and aggressive axle gearing.
Propulsion originally stemmed from a 4.1-liter HT4100 V8 (130 hp), upgrading to a 4.5-liter V8 (155–180 hp) for 1988, and concluding with a potent 200-horsepower 4.9-liter V8 for 1991. Transmissions were 4-speed automatic transaxles (4T60/4T60-E). Equipment highlights included Teves ABS brakes, a digital Driver Information Center, and an optional high-output Bose Gold Sound system.
