The first-generation Cadillac Seville (1975–1979) introduced a smaller, highly equipped international-class luxury sedan to compete with European rivals.
The first-generation Cadillac Seville was manufactured from mid-1975 through 1979 on GM's rear-wheel-drive K-body architecture (derived from the X-body foundation). Designed to counter rising European luxury imports from Mercedes-Benz and BMW, it was Cadillac's smallest yet highest-priced regular sedan model. Exterior styling featured crisp, square proportions with an upright radiator grille. The top-tier 1978 Elegante package added two-tone paint schemes, real wire wheels, and plush bucket seats with a console.
Powering the first-generation Seville was a 350 cubic-inch (5.7-liter) Oldsmobile V8 equipped with Bendix electronic fuel injection, producing 180 horsepower. An optional 5.7-liter Oldsmobile V8 diesel (120 hp) arrived for 1978. Power was routed through a three-speed THM400 automatic transmission. Standard mechanical equipment included four-wheel disc brakes, automatic rear height leveling, and automatic climate control.
