Buick Roadmaster V (Series 70) gallery (1949–1953)

Spanning 1949 through 1953, the fifth-generation Buick Roadmaster introduced styling cues that defined the brand for decades, most notably the four chrome VentiPorts on each front fender. Built on General Motors' redesigned C-body platform, it was offered as a four-door sedan, convertible, Riviera hardtop coupe, and the Estate Wagon (the last American woodie wagon built by a major manufacturer). Through 1952, power came from the 320 cubic inch Straight-8 producing up to 170 horsepower. In 1953, celebrating Buick's Golden Anniversary, the brand introduced its first modern overhead-valve Nailhead V8, displacing 322 cubic inches (5.3 liters) and generating 188 horsepower alongside a new 12-volt electrical system. The Twin Turbine Dynaflow automatic transmission became standard equipment. Sold in North America, this generation was celebrated for its smooth power delivery, panoramic windshield, and premium interior luxury.
