Buick Roadmaster IV (Series 70) gallery (1942–1948)

The fourth generation Buick Roadmaster Series 70 was introduced for 1942, paused due to wartime production, and resumed from 1946 through 1948. It featured groundbreaking Airfoil front fenders that swept smoothly across the doors into the rear fenders. Body options included a four-door sedan, a two-door Sedanet fastback, a two-door convertible, and the luxurious wood-bodied Estate Wagon. Propulsion was supplied by the 320 cubic inch (5.2-liter) Fireball Straight-8 engine delivering 144 to 150 horsepower. While a three-speed manual remained standard, 1948 marked the historic introduction of Buick's Dynaflow torque-converter automatic transmission, which delivered seamless acceleration without distinct shift points. Built on the rear-wheel-drive GM C-body, the Roadmaster featured plush interiors and massive chrome grilles. Primarily sold in North America, this generation became an enduring symbol of American post-war optimism and engineering leadership.
