The first-generation Bentley Brooklands was introduced in 1992 as a direct successor to the Bentley Mulsanne S and the entry-level Eight saloon. Named after the historic British banked motor racing circuit, the Brooklands utilized the traditional Rolls-Royce/Bentley SZ rear-wheel-drive platform equipped with hydraulic self-levelling suspension. Power initially came from a naturally aspirated 6.75-litre Rolls-Royce L-Series V8 engine fitted with Bosch electronic fuel injection, paired with a 4-speed GM 4L80-E automatic transmission. A mid-cycle revision in 1996 brought mechanical updates, culminating in the 1997 release of the Brooklands R, which introduced a light-pressure turbocharger pushing output to 305 hp, followed by a full-pressure version generating 325 hp. Handcrafted in Crewe, the cabin featured Connolly leather upholstery, Wilton wool carpets, and bookmatched burr walnut veneers. Offered in both standard and long-wheelbase variants, the first-generation Brooklands served as the core traditional saloon for Bentley worldwide until it was replaced by the Arnage in 1998.
