Bentley Unveils Most Rugged Bentayga Yet with the X Concept
- The Bentayga X Concept is built on the Bentayga Speed platform.
- This 641-horsepower SUV is specially crafted for the FAT Ice Race.
- The concept serves to explore customer interest in an off-road enhanced Bentayga model.
The Bentley Bentayga has long been a vehicle that sparks divided opinions. Enthusiasts who have experienced it firsthand tend to appreciate its qualities, while those who’ve only glimpsed it might be less impressed. The newly revealed Bentayga X Concept could shift perceptions about this luxury SUV’s capabilities.
Bentley has developed a rugged version of the Bentayga, debuting it at the FAT Ice Race in Zell am See, Austria. The purpose behind the X Concept is to assess the demand for a production variant with genuine off-road attributes.
Currently, the Bentayga excels on paved surfaces and light dirt tracks leading to upscale retreats. Despite its elevated stance compared to other Bentleys, it remains a refined driving experience.
The X Concept aims to tap into the growing market for SUVs that are not just stylish but truly capable off-road. While a full off-road drivetrain with features like a transfer case or lockers may not be forthcoming, enhancements such as all-terrain tires and a mild suspension lift significantly improve its off-road potential.
Starting from the Bentayga Speed, this concept retains the potent twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine producing 641 horsepower. To transform it into the X, Bentley fitted it with forged 22-inch wheels paired with Renegade R/T all-terrain tires—an unconventional choice but presumably effective.
Beyond tires, the Bentayga X features a wider track, raised ride height, extended fender flares, and a generous array of auxiliary lighting mounted on the roof. Ground clearance has been increased to 12.2 inches, wading depth approaches two feet, and track width has been expanded by nearly five inches.
One standout detail is the roof rack carrying an electric go-kart designed for children aged 5 to 17, used in the FAT Karting League. It adds a playful element, though its roof storage might pose a challenge for retrieval.
Visually and functionally, the Bentayga X Concept certainly commands attention.
It's likely that affluent attendees at the FAT Ice Race will be intrigued by the X Concept and eager to know when they can own one. Demand is rising for SUVs that offer authentic off-road ability, not just the appearance of it.
The Bentayga is already a top seller for Bentley, and introducing a rugged variant could broaden its appeal and boost sales further.
