First generation of the Volvo V70 estate on the P80 platform, succeeding the 850 Estate from 1996 to 2000.
The first-generation Volvo V70 (P80 platform) premiered in late 1996 as an upgraded successor to the 850 Estate. Featuring softer styling cues, an updated dashboard, and over 1,800 redesigned components, it was produced as a 5-door wagon. The lineup birthed the original V70 XC (Cross Country) all-wheel-drive crossover estate.
Powertrains featured 5-cylinder petrol engines (2.0, 2.4, 2.5L in naturally aspirated, 2.5T, and T5 tunes), Audi 2.5 TDI turbodiesel, and Bi-Fuel variants. Performance V70 R variants delivered up to 250 hp with Viscous AWD options before production ceased in 2000.
